Overview

Keyword selection is critical to the quality of your email lists. Aimlessly selecting keywords compared to taking your time and using some intelligence can make the difference between a highly targeted niche and a generic email list. This section provides some tips on how you can better utilize your selected keywords for your target email niche.

Try One Keyword for your Target Niche

Before creating a list of keywords for your niche I would suggest using the most powerful keyword for the niche you’re targeting only. Select about a half or third of the pre-defined websites and start scraping. You may be surprised at the number of emails that are returned on only a single keyword.

Don't Choose Keywords that are Too Similar

When selecting keywords make sure not to choose keywords that are too similar. For example, let’s say you’re attempting to generate a list of fitness related people. Here is a poor example of a keyword list:

Fitness people
Fitness person
Fitness Trainer
Personal Fitness

The above list of keywords is way too similar and will return many duplicate emails. Try using a broader spectrum of words relating to the niche that you’re targeting. Such as:

Fitness
Exercise
Workout
Health
etc., etc.

Use the Keyword Generator

The Keyword Generator (Tools > Keyword Generator) is there as a guide to provide more ideas with respect to the niche that you’re targeting. It is not advised to simply copy and paste the list of keywords that are generated. This is unless you’re interested in capturing every possible email relating to a niche and you don’t mind duplicates.

Limit the Number of Keywords Used

Most users seem to have an inclination that it is necessary to use dozens and dozens (if not hundreds) of keywords for an extraction session. Not only will this produce duplicate emails but your maximum email limit (and otherwise session) will likely end before every keywords has had a chance to be scraped against. I would only use one to twenty five keywords for any give extraction. There are several factors surrounding the number of keywords that you should use. After several sessions you will have a grasp of determining how any keywords you should use. Some of the factors to consider are the popularity of the niche, number of websites to scrape against in addition to your setup in the advanced options – amongst other things.
